Description:
The Useful Object class Jump-3 Ferries are designed to help bridge the occasional 2 parsec rift that criss-cross the Julian Protectorate. Able to carry over half their displacement volume in shipping, the ferries are setup in pairs to cover fixed key trade routes across larger rifts.

The class has attracted some naysayers, who point to the massive capital cost of each ferry (642 trillion credits) and question whether the money would be better spent subsidising the inclusion of Jump-3 drives in other merchant vessels. The Jump-3 ferries have proven their commercial value over time as trade routes previously unable to be used by Jump-2 merchants have opened up across the Julian Protectorate. As the ships have been sponsored by the Julian Protectorate itself, all Star Legion ships have priority placement on the ferries. This is usually not required as Jump-3 ships are the norm, but it is sometimes used by the older patrol vessels.

All crew share double occupancy staterooms, and all officers have their own staterooms. Because this sort of ship is usually assigned a fixed route between two star systems, it is easy for the crew to settle down at one end or the other of the route. This makes the posting a desireable one for crews with a desire to settle down on a world.

Combat Notes:
The combat stats shown do not take into account average crew skills, or the typical software package carried by a Useful Object Jump-3 Ferry. The class is obviously intended to be operating within well patrolled areas, and thus only carries defensive weaponry. The sandcaster turrets are divided into 12 batteries, each of which can add +7 to the ship's AC.
