The State Colour class carriers form the core of most Star Legion battlegroups. The ability to cover a system with high-performance fighters and maintain that coverage for weeks on end is given by these ships, which also act well in front-line battle roles thanks to their massive particle accelerator spinal mounts and relatively high agility (for such large ships).
The ability to field 40 squadrons of 30 and 40 ton fighters is enhanced by the capacious launch tubes mounted axially, giving State Colour carriers the ability to launch their entire complement of fighters shortly after the alert is sounded. There are also 20 50-ton modular cutters for crew needs, 50 200-ton fuel lighters for fast frontier refuelling, and 40 100-ton assault landers for deployment of the ship's marine companies.
The Star Legion Marine complement onboard consists of a regiment with a mix of standard Legion troops, HARDS and SQuIDS. The exact breakdown is: 240x Legion Squads (80x AFVs, 80x APCs, 80x Grunts - 960 men) 160x HARDS (160x Grav-Sleds - 960 men) 80x SQuIDS (80x Aqua-Sleds - 480 men)
The 100-ton assault landers typically carry either: 4x Grunt Squads, 4x AFVs, 4x APCs, or 8x HARDS, 8x Grav-Sleds, or 8x SQuIDS, 8x Aqua-Sleds
Being a TL-15 design, many of the systems are cutting edge, and so starports capable of building or repairing these behemoths are few and far between. For this reason State Colour carriers maintain their own engineering crew (200 engineers) and dedicate much of their cargo space to spare parts.

The carrier has relatively little armour for a front-line fighting ship and so Star Legion forces tend to keep them well back from the main line of battle, using the huge range of their spinal mount to punish opponents well before they are in range to deal them much damage. |
